Juan started riding seriously at age 11 when he joined the Club Ecuestre Huachipa in his native country of Peru.
Introduced to the discipline of Dressage, he was coached by Frank Maevis (Austria), and at the same time, also competed jumpers and won the very respectable National Junior Jumper Champion at the age of 12. The following year Juan earned the title of Reserve National Junior Jumper and continued on with his dressage training at the same time.

By 1974, Frank Maevis' career moved him out of Juan's area and Juan was introduced to Argentinian jumper coach Ernesto Molinuevo who guided Juan and his horse Thimbu successfully through training and competitions claiming the title of Reserve National Champion For Novice Jumpers.

Progressing through the years, Juan also worked with Ms. Pilar Cepeda (winner of numerous Queen Elizabeth Cups in England) and while primarily concentrating on jumpers, Juan remained commited to continuing his classical dressage education.

In 1981, Juan had the opportunity to purchase Kamikaze and quickly won the title of National Champion in the Novice Division. During this time, Juan had progressed to teaching young riders as well as attending College for Business Studies.

By 1985, Juan was invited to work as the Head Trainer for Club Ecuestre La Encantada in Peru.

Juan enjoyed outstanding success in dressage with his students winning National and the Reserve Champion in the Junior Division A. One of Juan's client's horses also earned the title of National Champion and Juan's own horse, Kamikaze achieved the Third Level Reserve Champion.

Juan and Kamikaze relocated to the United States in 1988, training at Westmoreland Davis Equestrian Institute with Raul De Leon and Tad Coffin.

Juan takes every opportunity possible to continue his education and in 1993 was chosen to ride at the USDF National Symposium in Orlando, Florida with Lilo Fore and Michael Poulin as the host clinicians. Juan takes every advantage of riding in clinics with noted trainers such as Maria Schneider, Berthaland Denemethy, Jaap Pot, Jack Le Goff and Arthur Kottas.

In 2003, Juan was recognized and pre-selected by Peru to compete in the 2003 Pan American Games with his beautiful horse, Grendel.

The Gold Coast Dressage Association (South Florida) presented Juan with the 2004 Intermediare I Champion award.

Juan is an ARCIP Certified Instructor and has also earned his USDF Bronze and Silver medals. He is currently working on his Gold.
